Traditional
Kurdish barbering
on Lower Street
Skin fades, beard work and the traditional hot towel shave. Seven days a week. No appointment.
Most shops in this trade take the Turkish name. This one keeps its own.
The craft is the one the trade is known for. The fade, the straight razor, the hot towel. The name only says where it came from.
Azad opened on Lower Street in January 2024. Two years and fifty-eight reviews later, the shop still takes walk-ins and still has no booking system.
Steam, a straight razor, twenty minutes
Four steps, and none of them are yours
Most people have never had one. It takes about twenty minutes.
Hot towel
Laid over the face to soften the beard and open the pores.
The razor
A straight razor, worked with the grain and then across it.
Cold towel
To close the pores again.
Balm
To settle the skin.
Haircut
Cut and finished in one sitting, the service the window has advertised since the doors opened.
Skin fade
The cut named most often across the reviews. Taken to the skin, kept sharp at the neckline.
Taper fade
A softer graduation around the ear and the nape, so it grows out cleanly.
Beard trim and shape-up
Lined and trimmed to sit with the cut. Most regulars take the two together.
Hot towel shave
The full four steps, with a straight razor.
Nose wax
Done in the chair, in under a minute.
Children's cuts
Any age. Parents are the ones who mention the patience.
Gift vouchers
Available in the shop.
Bit of Kurdish history and a hair cut at a very reasonable price.
